This course explores the spiritual traditions and religious practices of the major Mesoamerican civilizations, such as the Olmec, Maya, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, and Aztec. Students will examine the pantheon of gods and goddesses, cosmologies, rituals, and the deep spiritual connection Mesoamerican cultures had with nature, time, and the cosmos. The course will also investigate divination systems, sacred calendars, and the practices of magicians, priests, and shamans.
